Covid-19 FAQ


One thing that the global Corona Pandemic has shown us is that life has its uncertainties. In truth, we all have been affected either directly or indirectly. As people and experts from all over the world continue to tirelessly work through these tough moments, we all must do our part in making sure we get through this.

What is the Pru Cares Benefit?
We believe that we exist to help our customers plan for the “rainy day” and
intend to help cushion our customers during these rainy days.
With the pandemic that is upon us, Prudential is offering its customers in Kenya with benefits upon:

● Diagnosis of COVID – 19
● Quarantine in a government facility (self-quarantine does not apply)
● Hospitalization
● If the client goes into ICU
What are the Benefit details?
● A one-off payment of Kshs 10,000 if one tests positive for COVID-19;
● A daily cash benefit of Kshs 2,500 if one is quarantined in an approved
government facility; and
● A daily cash benefit of Kshs 2,500 if you are hospitalised: but not in
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to COVID-19
● A daily cash benefit of Kshs 5,000 if you are hospitalised and are in
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to COVID-19

What is the nature of this benefit?

  • This is a cash benefit for all our customers whether they purchased their product
  • directly from Prudential, through a broker or if they have a loan and their bank
  • provided insurance through Prudential.

What is the cover duration:

  • 45 days commencing on 01 April 2020
  • What is the waiting period?
  • For current policyholders the waiting period is
  • For new policyholders, it is 2 weeks

Who is eligible?

Current Prudential Policyholders under any product, who:
a. Is put in a government-assigned quarantine facility.
b. Tests positive for COVID -19.
c. Is hospitalised and are to receive treatment for COVID-19.

Any new Prudential Policyholder who signs up for any product by April 1st
2020

When am I not eligible?

  • If you are not already signed up as a Prudential policyholder
  • If you sign up for a Prudential Policy past the date of 15th May, 2020
  • If you have not been put into official quarantine by the government
  • If you are self-isolating at home.
  • When you HAVE NOT tested positive for COVID -19, neither
  • If the number of days in a government quarantine facility or hospitalisation exceeds 30 days.

Are there any costs?
No, this is a benefit applicable to Prudential policyholders at no extra fee or cost.

Can one buy this product?
No – because it is not a product. It is a benefit to Prudential policyholders.
Should an individual buy any of our products during this time, they will be subjected to a waiting period before the benefits can apply to them.

How will the daily cash payout be made?
Speaks to whether the daily payout is paid daily or as a lump sum at the end of the duration of quarantine or hospitalisation
