Across all its businesses Prudential Africa has committed to provide support for academically able but financially disadvantaged high school students. The company partners with a number of charities by funding educational programmes and projects. These programmes have focused on allowing vulnerable children to access quality education, through the provision of scholarship awards.
In Kenya, Prudential partners with Kenya Education Fund (KEF), a Non-Governmental Organization whose mission is to provide disadvantaged students in Kenya with support and educational resources so that they may improve their communities and break the cycle of poverty.
Prudential is currently offering full 4-year scholarships to 100 students through this partnership. The scholarship covers everything that a student requires to excel in school including room & board, tuition, uniforms, shoes, text books, sanitary pads and field trips. KEF also ensures that each scholar receives supplemental training through tailor-made Mentoring & Career Guidance Workshops offered throughout the four year scholarship.
Prudential Kenya is working closely with KEF to enhance the relationship further, and starting 2018, Prudential Kenya is looking at offering 4 year university scholarships to two of the top performing KEF graduates by giving them a chance to harness their work skills during campus vacations, and stipends earned going towards supporting them throughout their degree program.
